DNA Extraction Lab Conclusion

In this lab, we asked the question "How can DNA be separates from the cheek cells in order to study it?" Our hypothesis was "If DNA can be separated from cheek cells, then you would be able to see DNA during precipitation . We found that DNA became visible during precipitation, when we gently poured in rubbing alcohol into the Gatorade solution. First we swished Gatorade in our mouths to get cheek cells ( homogenization ), then added a pinch of salt, liquid detergent and pineapple juice, which was the enzyme the enzyme , to the Gatorade ( lysis ). Then we poured cold rubbing alcohol into it, and almost immediately, the DNA became visible and stringy in the alcohol part of the solution. This data supports the claim because it proves that DNA becomes visible to the human eye during precipitation. Candy Electrophoresis Lab Conclusion

The dyes we used were for the most part, just like the reference dyes. We didn't have an orange colored dye (yellow 5), but instead we got a green dye from a green skittle. For the green skittle dye, it separated into two colors, blue and yellow. The yellow band from the green dye went the same distance as the yellow reference band and the blue band from the green dye went the same distance as the blue reference dye. Citrus Red 2 might travel similarly to the yellow reference dye, because of its size. The Fast Green FCF might travel similarly to the orange reference dye. Betanin might migrate similarly to the red dye, and Carminic acid might travel similarly to the blue reference dye. Bird Beak Lab Conclusion

Data for Part 1 of the Bird Beak Lab For Part 2, the environmental stressor that we experienced was a massive drought that cause all of the seed pod plants (toothpicks) to die out due to lack of moisture. The first hypothesis was " Individuals with better traits leave more offspring". The tweezer beak birds demonstrated this because they picked up the most food. In Part 1, the tweezers birds produced 18 offspring. Compared to the spoon and binder clip birds, who produced 4 and 8 offspring, the tweezer beak birds produced more offspring because their "beak" made it easier to obtain more food. The evidence of this happening is that the tweezers picked up more food and it was easier for them to do so. This happened because the tweezers made is easier to pick up food with.
